Planning permission was being sought for the replacement of the existing dwelling at a property in Montford Bridge, Shropshire. Switch Ecology was commissioned to carry out an initial Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) of the site, and to subsequently carry out bat surveys of two buildings.
The initial PEA survey identified a range of habitats on the site, including established gardens, traditional orchard, a Priority Habitat, and hedgerows along the site boundaries. The survey also identified bat field signs in two of the buildings and therefore recommended bat activity surveys, during the peak surveys season, to accurately establish the presence or absence of bats in the buildings.
The bat surveys were completed, identifying several bat roosts in the buildings, and a comprehensive report, including a mitigation strategy for bats, was prepared to the support the planning application for the site.
